Funday Sunday – The Unicorn Trend

Oh, the unicorn trend that somehow manages to keep spamming our Facebook feeds.  From “Unicorn” brushes to multicoloured highlighters, oils and collections, this trend seems it’s here to stay.  I’m going to look at some of the most popular unicorn inspired makeup and see why it makes us tick.

These products from Toofaced seem to have totally broken the internet time and again.  The unicorn trend is on steroids in these products.  The sold-out unicorn survival kit contains the Melted Latex lipstick in the shade Unicorn Tears, a pink-blue highlighter, and the Creme lipstick in, you named it Unicorn Tears.  This kit is really great for those wanting to sample the unicorn trend for something new.  What’s really cool about the creme lipstick is that its colour changing.  It first goes on a blue colour and then the base tone shifts to a pretty pink colour which is super pretty.  What’s great is you can buy it separately, instead of waiting for a restock to happen.  I’ve included a picture of it on my arm to show how the lipstick changes colour.  The blue is when it’s first applied and pink is once it’s settled.  It also smells like vanilla which is nice too.

The next item is the bronzer.  I would say this is going to be for people who prefer more of a glowy bronzer than the classic matte.  On the Toofaced website, they state that “For the first time ever we’ve combined the effects of the warm bronze of sunlight, the ethereal glow of moonlight and the twinkling effect of starlight together for a unicorn of a bronzer and a festival glow like nothing you’ve ever seen.”  From the sound of that, it seems that it’ll be a really beautiful glowy finish that can be worn to make a full glam look festival ready.  This is great for those who like to go all out with their makeup, be a bit experimental, and play with lots of different products.  For those who don’t this may not be for you; the Toofaced chocolate bronzers may be more your speed.

The final thing here is the eyeshadow palette.  This is a palette with what looks like three matte-ish shades, nine sparkle and duo-chrome shades and the one special edition Unicorn Tears highlighter in the middle.  This palette has a really nice selection of colours, however, it may not work the best on its own as it doesn’t have lots of transition and matte shades.  If you’re one who’s really into the shimmer though, this palette is made for you!  The packaging with the unicorn on the front is also super cute.

The next thing is the Farsali Unicorn Essence that has been everywhere recently ($54 USD).  According to their website “This innovative oil-free solution acts as a dual-purpose serum, which helps protect the skin from free radical damage while preparing it for layering moisturizer or makeup application…  This skin enhancing serum contains four superfruit extracts, rich in antioxidants; known for their anti-ageing & free radical fighting properties: acai berrygoji berryelderberry & blueberry. Acai berries & blueberries not only contain powerful antioxidants, they are also packed with vitamin C; vital for overall skin health & skin tone.”  Because it doesn’t have oils it’s going to sink into the skin easily and prepare it for the rest of your skincare without being greasy.

This is such a big product totally because of it being a “unicorn” product.  I think that it sounds really lovely, and the skincare benefits sound fantastic, but the biggest selling point is that it is pink, sparkly and a unicorn dream in a bottle.

Has anyone tried this product?  If so, does it live up to the hype?  What do you think?

The final thing I have seen floating around is an abundance of unicorn inspired brushes.  From the ones that Tarte brought out, to Unicorn Cosmetics’ extensive range of everything, they are here to stay.  You can even find them on Aliexpress sites and eBay.  They are a fun way of making the most boring part of your makeup exciting.  Who wants a boring black brush when you can have a multicoloured brush that looks like a unicorn horn?

And the Tarte brushes don’t seem to be around currently, but they may come back so keep your eyes peeled!

I think the reason that these products are so popular is that they’re a really easy and cute way to experiment with makeup, I mean who doesn’t like unicorns?
