Red Liquid Lipsticks

VS. Monday – Stila vs Fenty Red Liquid Lipsticks

Hello everyone, today I will be talking about two of my favorite red liquid lipsticks.  I will be testing the Fenty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color in the shade Uncensored against the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Beso.  I will talk about packaging, formula, usability and the look of these products.  This will therefore help me determine which one I think is best.  I’ll get right to it…

Packaging

The packaging of this product feels incredibly luxe.  The lipstick is in a beautiful glass cylinder, therefore, making it feel sturdy and well made.  The handle is a plastic metallic silver that screws in perfectly with the glass base.  I would love handle be made of a metal rather than plastic.  Personally, I think plastic can cheapen the look of a product sometimes and when you’re spending $41 NZD metal would have been nice.  However, that really isn’t a big deal, that’s my only gripe with the packaging as a whole.

The lipsticks shape being octagonal ads a nice touch, this is similar to many other Fenty products.  This helps make the collection look cohesive and tidy.  The unusual shape also makes for makeup that looks good out on your dresser.

This lipstick has your more basic packaging.  It is a long thin circular, cylindrical tube, pretty similar to many other liquid lipsticks and glosses out there.  Made out of plastic, it doesn’t have the luxe feel that glass gives off.  The packaging does give it a more basic vibe.  I will say however, I like the gold detailing on the actual tube and the cap.  The brand name and information is written on the tube in gold which adds nice detail.  This lipstick is $35 NZD

I think the winner of nicest packaging goes to the Fenty liquid lip.  It feels more luxurious, and that’s what I want from my cosmetics.

Formula

This lipsticks formula is unusual for a liquid lipstick.  It feels quite thin on the lips and doesn’t tend to be as drying as others I have used.  This, therefore, means that it may be better for those with somewhat dry skin.  However, what this more hydrating formula means is that it is not transfer resistant.  It never really totally dries down to the point where it won’t budge.  This means that it will move and shift around on the lips, therefore making it more likely you’ll get it on your perfect white dress.

This formula, on the other hand, tends to be the opposite.  It is thicker and definitely drying on the lips.  I always recommend wearing this with a balm of lip oil underneath to keep those smackers hydrated.  This also tends to have this way of bunching up on the lips and feeling a little cakey/crepey, and it does sometimes look this way too.  However, it is a fairly budge proof, full coverage colour so this isn’t too surprising, I just don’t love the feel of it.  This is mostly transfer resistant.  It won’t go everywhere, but it isn’t as safe as something like a stain to wear for no budging.

I like different aspects of both formulas, but I think I like the Fenty one better again because it is more comfortable on the lips.

Useability

This is probably the only easy red liquid lip to apply I have ever used.  It has a really oddly shaped applicator that works amazingly on the contours of the mouth.  I find with a little bit of lip liner, I can create a perfect, tidy red liquid lip in no time.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso

This is the opposite,  It is so hard to use, the applicator is long and flat (basic applicator type), it doesn’t mimic the contours of my lips well, it doesn’t disperse product evenly on the lips.  This really annoys me because I’ve then always got my makeup wipes out to fix mistakes.  These issues occur so obviously because red is such a vibrant colour, I have this lipstick in a nude shade and don’t have these problems.

Again therefore, Fenty wins out here for that awesome applicator!

Sorry Stila, I like the Fenty one better here too.  It isn’t quite as crumbly as the Stila one, and my lips do look nice and hydrated.

Final Thoughts

The Fenty lipstick is the winner for me here.  Honestly,  I love the packaging, it gives a far more luxe feeling to it than the basic Stila packaging.  I also love the applicator of the Fenty one too.  I do hate that it does transfer, and if that’s your biggest worry, choose the Stila lipstick, but I think it makes up for it by being less drying, more comfortable.

The colours of both lipsticks are the same, therefore not much of a difference at all there.

Have any of you used these lipsticks?  What do you think of them?  Is there something better you want to see me try?
